How does LACE AI PRO improve hearing in noise?
LACE AI PRO has now been Listed with the TGA in Australia. It has been utilised in Europe and the USA for some time. It is designed to be set up by your Audiologist, who will be able to monitor your progress, across a number of appointments to provide support and to demonstrate speech clarity improvement in noise has occurred. This is measured via the Lace AI Pro APP and your Signal to Noise Ratio score which shows how loud a sound needs to be relative to what we are listening for, to be not only heard but understood.
The three main areas the LACE AI Pro focuses on are:
Speech in noise training
Helps to improve speech understanding and improve clarity in difficult places like shopping centres, restaurants, family gatherings for example. This is always a concern for hearing aid users. Hearing Aids make the signal louder and clear some of the background noise, but it is the hearing aid users brain that has to make sense of the conversation.
Working memory training
Helps to improve the ability to remember and retrieve auditory information. This is important for processing speech and speech sound complex information and following conversations in general.
Rapid speech training
Helps with understanding fast speakers and keep up with changing conversations by improving processing speed of speech signals.
How long does the LACE AI PRO and do the improvements last
The LACE AI PRO program takes around 20 minutes a day across a minimum of a month. Optimally it is supported by your Audiologist via monitoring the APP, and a couple support and testing appointments across this time.
To see if this is a suitable solution for your needs we will ask you to get your GP to do a referral on our paperwork for a comprehensive hearing assessment. This initial assessment is Bulk Billed, and allows Bundaberg Hearing Aids and Tinnitus Treatment Clinic's Audiologist to rule out common medical causes for hearing difficulties in noise, and to ensure that LACE AI PRO is suitable for the treatment of your individual concerns.
Our LACE AI PRO offering will run for 3 months and includes the fitting and programming of the LACE AI APP, a follow up appointment at 1 month to monitor progress, and to determine if 3 months is the best time to move into maintenance. At the second follow up appointment we will examine if there are any further improvements to the signal to noise ratio, and see if any further ongoing care, or other services, may be required. Studies have shown that the improved signal to noise ratio, continues for at least 6 months after therapy has finished.
It is recommended that 1-2 sessions are maintained a week upon completion, so that these gains are maintained.

The LACE AI PRO APP uses
Adaptive training: The AI adjusts the difficulty of exercises in real-time. If you're struggling with a task, it makes it easier; if you're doing well, it increases the challenge, which assists with engagement , prevents frustration, and assists with the treatment and motivation levels.
Personalized exercises: You can choose topics of interest, and the program can even use recordings of family members' voices to train with sounds that are specific to your daily life.
Addresses specific difficulties: The exercises are designed to improve specific listening skills that are challenging such as hearing in noise. However it can also assist with working memory, and other hearing skills such as, multitasking while listening, and multi-speaker environments. Because of this I recommend Lace AI Pro as the computer based learning program of choice not only for clients with hearing aids, but also for many types of Auditory Processing Weakness.
Progress tracking
Improvement over time is shown via accuracy gains (hearing better in noise), and faster response times. Generally two follow up appointments with your Audiologist are recommended.
Measuring and Validating improvement of Signal to Noise with Lace AI Pro
The goal of the Lace AI Pro training is to lower your LACE-SIN score over the course of the program. This measurement shows the improvement in the ability to understand speech in background noise. A lower score is better indicating a higher ability in separating speech from background noise.
LACE AI Pro COST $900 Privately or $500 Pensioner or with Hearing Aid Purchase
A comprehensive hearing test which includes extended range audiology, tympanometry, speech in noise testing, otoacoustic emissions etc., is recommended prior to commencement of LACE AI Pro and this can be bulk billed at Bundaberg Hearing Aids and Tinnitus Treatment Clinic with GP referral. Ask your GP to tick comprehensive diagnostic hearing battery, the first option on the referral pad. This can be found at the end of the home screen or the download section of the website.
The Supply, training, and programming of your Listening and Communication Enhancement App, will cost $500. Follow up appointments are recommended at 1 and 3 months depending on how treatment is going and are billed at $200.
Should you wish to manage your rehab independently via the app, only the fitting appointment and fee is mandatory for the treatment. Pensioners and Veterans receive the program at a discounted price of $500 including the two follow rehab appointments.

How do the Audeara EarBuds differ from others?
Audeara earbuds have a comfortable shape with different sized ear buds included in the pack. They are an Australian Company founded in Brisbane in 2015, so support and service is generally excellent. The devices can do a hearing test via the APP so they are set up to your hearing levels if there is a hearing loss or if a tiny touch of amplification is needed to improve hearing in noise. If you have a more severe hearing loss this can be programmed by your audiologist. Lastly Bluetooth is with slowly be replaced with a technology called Aura cast. While not widely used yet, they are compatible which helps to future proof your investment.

There are 3 settings which can be excellent for assisting with Auditory Processing Disorder weaknesses.
Focus Mode:
This setting applies maximum background noise suppression allowing a reduced sensory input, but also blocking out noises and voices which could interfere with learning when its self directed or coming from a computer.
Speech Mode:
This mode enhances speech from the front while also applying noise reduction to make the signal even better. Useful for meetings, 1.1, and small group work in a classroom.
Aware Mode:
This allows speech and environmental sounds to come in even when streaming music or speech from technology. This may be required if learning from a PC where the teacher still needs to be able to communicate with the child.
